  • Overview

    The Associate Experience Developer will support the development and implementation of OMCA’s installation of the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s traveling exhibition No Spectators: The Art of Burning Man, specifically overseeing the recruitment and facilitation of volunteer educators and facilitators, the implementation of an in-gallery “maker” space, plus developing and implementing exhibition-related programs. The position is project part-time for 14 months. Weekday schedule of up to 24 hours is anticipated for January - September. Schedule will transition to include Friday evenings and weekends for October - February.

    INSTITUTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Lead the inclusion of “Burner” voices and perspectives in the exhibition specifically through the recruitment, training and facilitation of a gallery volunteer program for the specific exhibition
    • Participate in the planning and lead the implementation of in-gallery and exhibition-related maker space; supervise resident artists, volunteers and interns as needed
    • Lead the research, development and implementation of exhibition-related programs and events that may include including panel talks, music, art making, movement, etc.; provide onsite coordination and supervision of these activities; coordinate with OMCA Public Engagement and Event Support teams
    • Work with Associate Director, Evaluation and Visitor Insights to develop methods and protocols to measure program impact and reach, compile program data
    • Assist with staff training related to the exhibition; conduct tours for stakeholders and public as needed
    • Prepare presentations and reports to support fundraising and donor stewardship

    Qualifications

    EXPERIENCE

    A combination of experience and education that demonstrates possession of the necessary knowledge and abilities for this position is required as noted:

    • Ability to display and encourage visitor and internal customer service, take and share responsibility and treat others with respect
    • Demonstrated experience working with volunteers
    • Demonstrated knowledge of and participation in Burning Man and associated regional events
    • Experience developing, implementing and managing public events or programs
    • Ability to think and act on your feet to solve problems and respond to the public
    • Passion for working in the public sphere
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to juggle multiple tasks and deadlines, and work independently
    • MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); Google Apps

    While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently exposed to the following:

    • Noise, such as groups of people working in enclosed areas
    • Typical office environment
