    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Graphic Designer, Communications is responsible for participating in the conception and execution of the museum’s visual design output related to external communications and the onsite experience of the institutional brand. This position works closely with the Communication Design Manager and others from across the organization to support revenue goals and realize the museum brand in non-exhibition spaces.

    INSTITUTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Support the Museum’s mission, values, vision, and core commitment to the visitor experience, community engagement, and institutional relevancy for the future;
    • Contribute to and support the OMCA strategic plan, annual priorities, and institutional initiatives such as diversity advancement;

    POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Graphic Design

    • Design a wide array of print and digital materials that meet an associated Creative Brief or project
    • description. Work with internal clients to ensure design meets the needs of the project
    • Design material for print and digital formats including web banners and online promotions that follow the creative established by the OMCA advertising agency
    • Support digital graphics, including the website (museumca.org) and email communications
    • Ensure the agreed upon creative approach to institutional messaging is carried across multiple platforms, such as printed and digital collateral for events, programs, fundraising campaigns, rentals, retail, etc
    • Create illustrations for icons or graphics
    • Retouch and manipulate photographic images; prepare all files for print production
    • Design and monitor the production of in-house institutional signage
    • Support needs of exhibitions or other graphics projects as needed

    Communication

    • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate openly and productively with key stakeholders
    • Advise institution and project teams on the development of procedures and protocols as they relate to graphic design
    • Ability to understand the intent of a creative brief and translate that into a successful design experience
    • Facilitating timely and appropriate approvals/feedback in order to meet deadlines

    Qualifications

    EXPERIENCE

    A level of experience that demonstrates possession of the necessary knowledge and abilities for this position is required as noted:

    • Ability to display and encourage visitor and internal customer service, take and share responsibility and treat others with respect
    • 3-5 years of related experience required
    • Adobe Creative Suite:  InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat
    • Experience with motion graphics experience, after effects preferred
    • Mac computers and peripherals
    • MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
    • FileMaker, Gmail/Google Apps, Smartsheet and/or other online, inter-relational calendar and scheduling software is a plus
    • English language proficiency in both spoken and written form

     

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently exposed to the following:

    • Noise, such as groups of people working in enclosed areas
    • Typical office environment
    • Ability to lift up to 10 pounds
